History of Ministry

Spirit of Truth Radio Program & Ministry

The Spirit of Truth Radio Program was the forerunner of the Spirit of Truth Ministries of Wichita, Kansas. The Spirit of Truth Radio Program had it beginning in 1976 on Radio Station KWBB in Wichita Kansas. The radio ministry was an outreach "tent making ministry" of Evangelist Richard Awtrey. The radio ministry consisted of a 15-minute program every Sunday morning. It was totally produced and supported by trading building maintenance services at the radio station for airtime.

From the successful radio program, the Spirit of Truth Ministries of Wichita, Kansas was formed. It was the umbrella organization of Richard Awtrey Evangelistic Ministries. Because of Richard's desire to not have any credit reflected toward him, he chose to have all credit for the ministry reflected to the Spirit of Truth, thus the name was chosen.

The Spirit of Truth Ministries is produced and governed through it's board members that oversee the various outreach activities of Evangelist Richard Awtrey. Some of the past and current outreach activities include conducting Revival meetings, ministering at Pastors and Prayer Conferences, starting and pastoring a small congregation that met in a shopping center. Other outreach ministries included preaching in correctional institutions and a street ministry to the homeless in Wichita, Kansas.

Spirit of Truth Medical Mission

The Spirit of Truth Medical Mission began in 1993 after Evangelist Richard Awtrey returned from a mission trip to the Philippine Islands. Richard was so touched by the dilemma of the Philippine people, and the Philippine evangelical pastors' plight that he formed the Spirit of Truth Medical Mission.

The purpose of this outreach ministry is to collect donated medical supplies and equipment from doctors and medical facilities in Wichita, Kansas. These supplies are then flown or shipped to the Philippine Islands where they are passed out to needy emergency clinics or other hospitals. The supplies are donated to the most needy clinics free of any cost, but with one stipulation. For every dollar amount of supplies donated, the clinic is to establish a credit system whereby, local Christian pastors and their families can receive free medical services.

"It is hard to imagine hospitals so crowed that women are being placed on the floor after giving birth because there's not enough beds to go around. The medical conditions on many of the islands are so primitive that they date back to the 18th Century. Many of the emergency clinics can't even afford basic antibiotics." Richard Awtrey, Evangelist

"The average Christian pastor in the Philippines makes about $14 US dollars per month. Most of them can hardly afford to feed their families, much less pay for medical expenses." Richard Awtrey, Evangelist
